About Darla

I relish the opportunity to see a different way to navigate the abundance of paths we are presented within this life. I live to foster the amazingness in the people around me. I like to peel away the layers that are making things hard or unmanageable and find new, beautiful ways to thrive.

I am a Professional Certified Coach {PCC} with the International Coach Federation {ICF}. I was trained by the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching {iPEC} in Core Energy Coaching™ and COR.E Dynamics™. I am certified in Energy Leadership™ including the powerful Energy Leadership Index {ELI} assessment tool and have coached over 1000 hours.

After 10 years of law firm and human resources management at the intellectual property law firm of Synnestvedt & Lechner in Philadelphia, PA {including a stint working remotely from the slopes in Utah}, I found myself older, wiser and unafraid of what life had in store for me. Equipped with a new found freedom in choosing my path, I went back to school to study what I loved most {writing} and traveling the world from Southern India {my favorite country to date} to Dubai and Oman to Hawaii and New York.

I hold a Bachelor of Communication degree with a concentration in Journalism from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I have written magazine-style food and lifestyle pieces for numerous publications including The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Philadelphia Daily News. I co-founded RoadHug - a multimedia company with a mission to highlight authentic stories about food, fashion and music in small-town America - including co-writing, co-starring and co-producing the pilot episode of a documentary series.

It was this experience that led me to buy a 1986 BMW, strap my mountain bike to the roof and take to the road to explore my vast and vibrant country of origin. After I tired of the road {or the road tired of me}, I settled down with a farm-to-table restaurant group in Georgia and worked the fields, the farms, the slaughterhouses, the restaurants and the offices - growing a local food co-operative, developing sales and marketing strategy and creating an almost million dollar revenue stream in the process.

I have presented in a number of arenas including The Georgia Organics Annual Conference as well as the Stone Barns Young Farmer Conference. One of the most rewarding experiences to come from this phase of my career was co-founding The Farmer Fund - a statewide non-profit with the mission to enable small, sustainable farmers to rebuild after natural disasters. The hallmark fundraiser of the organization was an annual calendar highlighting local chefs in nothing but aprons and equally scantily clad local farmers.

I currently call Portland home. I moved here with my cold-ocean surfing, jazz-bassist playing, humanitarian-photographer husband, Ezra, and my “do you want to see my new dance moves?” 4-year old daughter, Izzy. When I’m not coaching, you can find me cross-stitching under a blanket, running along a river or sipping a hot chocolate on the beach.

My mission is to empower you to find the confidence to explore the intersection between growth, joy and ease in your life.
